For the person taking the computer in

Walk in knowing what to ask.

Find repair shops near you on the maps you already trust, put their quotes side by side, decide whether it is worth fixing, and hand it over with a proper drop-off sheet.

From “it’s broken” to “it’s back”

  1. 01

    Find

Map and BBB searches for your ZIP, opened on their own sites. You choose who to call.

  2. 02

    Ask

The questions to ask on the phone, and the answers that should make you hang up.

  3. 03

    Compare

Type in each quote. See the true total, the warranty and every red flag.

  4. 04

    Decide

Repair or replace, from the quote, the price of a new one and the years it has left.

  5. 05

    Hand over

A printed drop-off sheet, a spending limit, and a pick-up check for the day you collect it.

Worked example

The cheaper quote is not always cheaper.

Shop B’s parts and labour look lower, but its $39 diagnostic fee comes on top, it adds a $15 fee, gives 14 days of warranty, wants $120 up front and has not put anything in writing. Quote Compare adds it up the same way for the quotes you collect.

Questions

Why don’t you just list the shops near me?

A list would need someone to check every shop, and a site that lists shops ends up selling the top spot. Map and BBB searches are already good at “who is near me”. What they don’t do is help you compare the quotes and hand the computer over safely. That is this site.

Do I need an account?

No. A saved repair file lives at a private link that only you have. Lose the link and nobody can recover it, us included.

Should I give the shop my password?

Not on paper, and not in this site. The drop-off sheet offers safer ways: be there when they need to sign in, make a temporary account for the shop, or ask whether they need to sign in at all.

Is WeldonPC one of the shops?

WeldonPC.com runs this site and also repairs computers. It is not listed, featured or favoured anywhere here; if you use these tools on a WeldonPC quote, it is added up exactly like everyone else’s.
