About
The customer’s side of the repair counter.
Most “computer repair near me” sites are directories that sell the top spot. This one is a set of tools for the customer, and nothing else.
Who runs it
ComputerRepairNearMe.org is run by WeldonPC.com, an IT company. WeldonPC also repairs computers. It is not listed, featured or favoured anywhere on this site, and the tools treat a WeldonPC quote exactly like any other. This is not a nonprofit and does not claim to be one.
What it does not do
It lists no shops and holds no data about shops. It does not rate, review, rank or recommend any business. The “Find” page only builds links to searches on Google Maps, Apple Maps, OpenStreetMap and the BBB.
How the numbers are worked out
- True total = parts + labour + other fees + tax as quoted, plus the diagnostic fee when it is not taken off the repair. When the fee is taken off, the total is never less than the fee.
- Flags: no written estimate; diagnostic fee on top; no warranty, or under 30 days; a deposit over half the total; files not asked about, or may be wiped; a total of half or more of a comparable new computer (when you give that price).
- Badges compare your quotes with each other only: lowest total, longest warranty, quickest. Ties share a badge.
- Repair or replace: useful life of 4 years for a laptop, 5 for an all-in-one, 6 for a desktop tower (our planning numbers, not a fact about your machine). Half or more of new = lean replace; half a year or less of that life left (or past it) and a repair costing more than half a year of a new one = lean replace; 35% or more of new, or more per year left than new costs per year = close call (years left are never counted as less than half a year); otherwise repair makes sense. These are all the rules; nothing else changes the verdict.
